The 2010 Joyous Life lecture for Melbourne was held at the church on Sunday 7th March. The guest lecturer was the Rev. Marlon Okazaki, Head of the Tenrikyo Southern Pacific Church in Los Angeles.


Joyous Life Lecture 2009

The 2009 Joyous Life lecture for Melbourne was held at the church on Sunday 22nd March. The guest lecturer was the Rev. Jiro Morishita, Head of the Tenrikyo Brotherhood Church in Los Angeles.

Japanese School for children finishes for 2008

The last Japanese class for children for 2008, was successfully held on the 13th December. A party was held following the last class, and the children enjoyed various games and activities. Classes will resume again in 2009 on Saturday the 31st January.


2008 Visit by the Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Study Tour

The 2008 Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Australia Study Tour was held in Melbourne from the 20th to the 24th March. During their stay, the 12 members of the group participated in such activities as visiting Fairhills High School in Knoxfield and holding a Japan Day event at the church with the school members and Senior Pastor David Waters from Knox Community Baptist church. Prior to commencing the cultural exchange party the TYMA members performed the Service with everyone present, in order to pray for world peace.

Joyous Life Lecture 2008

The 2008 Joyous Life lecture for Melbourne was held at the church on Sunday 3rd February. The guest lecturer was the Rev. Simon Patterson, Head of the Tenrikyo London Sakurai Mission Station. The Rev. & Mrs. Harada, together with members of the Ohko Church in Okayama also visited the church on that day. Members of the Ohko Church band played music for everyone during the lunch following the lecture.




Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Study Group Visit 2008

The Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Study Group visit to Melbourne will be held from the 20th to 23rd March. They will hold 'Japan Day' at the church on the 21st March from 12 noon. Further details can be found on the poster.

A Thousand Paper Cranes

Following the 2007 December Service, the young members of the church folded one thousand origami cranes, to send to Rex and Taneko Bolitho, in order to wish them good health and happiness. Rex who is 95 and Taneko who is 85, have been living in a retirement home which is located in a remote location outside of Melbourne for the last few years. Due to the long distance, people have not been able to visit them on a regular basis, so the members of the church sent the cranes in the hope that they could look at them everyday, and remember the time they had spent at the church.


Final Monthly Service for 2007

The final monthly service for 2007 was successfully held on the 2nd December with the Rev. and Mrs. Adachi from the TOC in attendance. This was the last Service for Ms. Yurie Sawasaki and Mr. & Mrs. Kenichi Goto who have now finished their studies in Australia, and will be returning to Japan.

Joyous Life Lecture 2007

This year's Joyous Life Lecture was held on the 11th of March and delivered by Rev. Takaharu Ichise, Head of the Oceania and North America Sections of the Tenrikyo Overseas Department


Enshrinement of God the Parent in Hervey Bay

The enshrinement of God the Parent took place on the 8th of January 2007 at the home of Justin and Rebecca Baker in Hervey Bay, QLD."

The Rev. Chuji Yoshikawa, head minister of the Katsujo Branch Church in Osaka, visited this church from the 3rd to the 6th November. The Rev. Yoshikawa delivered a sermon in english, following the November Monthly Service.

Visit by the 12th Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Study Tour

The 12th Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Australia Study Tour was held in Melbourne from the 14th to the 17th September. During their stay, the 12 members of the group participated in such activities as visiting Fairhills High School in Knoxfield for a culture exchange with the teachers and students, doing Nioigake in the city and also doing Hinokishin activities.

Visit by Tenri University Gagaku Music Society

28 members of the Gagaku group of Tenri University visited the church on Saturday 15th of July.
They performed a concert at the church from 1pm to 3pm followed by a workshop. Professor Koji Sato of Tenri University explained about the gagaku through the workshop. The MC for the concert was Dr. Alison Tokita of Monash University. A Bugakumen ( Mask of Bugaku-Batou ) was presented to Rev. Fukuda by the Tenri University Gagaku Music Society following their performance.

Bugaku: Nasori, Batou
Workshop

About one hundred people including the university group attended the welcome reception held at the church after concert. They performed various concerts around Australia during this visit as part of the Australia-Japan year of exchange, 2006. It was a great performance and unforgettable experience for all who attended. Many thanks go out to the members of Tenri University Gagaku Music Society for providing us with this wonderful opportunity.

Visit by three committee members of the Tenrikyo Young Men's Association

Three committee members of the Tenrikyo Young Men's Association, Mr. Daiji Tanabe, Mr. Kaoru Murata and Mr. Masanori Shimamura visited the church from the 3rd - 5th June. During their visit they discussed possible activities for this year's Study Group. This year's study group is expected to come to Melbourne from the 14th to the 17th of September.

First Gathering of the Shikishima Members of Australia

The first gathering of the Shikishima Members of Australia was held at this church on the 12th March, 2006. The Lecturer for the day was the Rev. Fumio Morii, and he delivered a message from the Head Minister of Shikishima Grand Church, Rev. Tadakazu Yamada. Following the lecture, there was a short practice session of the service hand movements and instruments.

Oyasato Tour 2006

In 2006, nine people returned to the Jiba. The participants of the 2006 Oyasato Tour were Shirley Truman, Betty Anderson, Helmut Becker, Glenda Gee, James Aitchison, Yoko Fukuda, Kaz Fukuda, Kenji Fukuda and Risa Fukuda.
The group arrived in Japan on the 17th April and stayed until the 6th May. During the trip, the group were able to attend the Oyasama Birth Celebration Service and attend several Besseki Lectures, with Ms. Glenda Gee able to receive the Divine Grant of the Sazuke. The group was also able to participate in the Shikishima Grand Church Overseas Followers Rally, as well as attend the Tenrikyo Women's Annual General Meeting. An unforgettable time was had by all, and heartfelt thanks go out to all the people who made this trip possible.

Happy Wedding

The joyous wedding of Noriko Shiba and Michinobu Nishikawa was held at this church on the 13th November on a glorious Spring day in Melbourne, together with family and friends. A wonderful day was had by all, and we wish the new couple all the best and continued blessings as they embark on their new life together.

Visit by Rev. Rieko Yoshikawa

The Rev. Rieko Yoshikawa, wife of the head minister of the Katsujo Branch Church in Osaka, visited this church for the first time from the 29th September to the 3rd October. The Rev. Yoshikawa delivered a sermon following the October Monthly Service. The sermon was delivered in Japanese, with a simultaneous English translation by the Rev. Yoshihiro Mukai.

Tenrikyo Young Women's Gathering 2005

The first Tenrikyo Young Women's gathering at the Melbourne Shinyu Church venue was held on the 2nd October, 2005. The program for the day included the following:

Visit by the 11th Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Study Tour

The 11th Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Austalia Study Tour was held in Melbourne from the 9th to the 11th September.
Their schedule was as follows:
9th September - Visited Fairhill High School in Knoxfield for a culture exchange with the teachers and students.
10th September - Visited Mr. Ray Truman's Shrine in Boronia. Visited Mr. Geoff Trood's Shrine in Warburton and participated in Nioigake (Sprinkling the fragrance of the Teachings) around Warburton. Had a BBQ lunch at Badger's Creek.
11th September - A Garage Sale was held at the church in the morning. Group members handed out Tenrikyo pamphlets to people who came to the Garage Sale. In the afternoon, a Friendship party was held at the church with church members and friends.

Ray & Shirley's Golden Wedding Anniversary

Shirley & Raymond Truman celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the church on the 26th March together with friends and family. We would like to congratulate both of them, and pray that they will continue to receive God the Parent's marvelous blessings and live in good health.

Joyous Life Lecture 2005

This year's Joyous Life Lecture was held on Sunday the 6th February, following the February Monthly Service. The lecturer was the Rev. Nobuyuki Takeuchi from Kyokushi London Mission Centre.
The Rev. Masashi Moriwake, Rev. Tadashi Yamashita and the Rev. Yoshimasa Noguchi from Tenrikyo Ohkou Church in Okayama, Japan also visited the church on that day.

Visit by Rev. Tadao Yoshikawa

The Rev. Tadao Yoshikawa, previous head minister of the Katsujo Branch Church in Osaka, visited this church from the 5th to the 10th November. The Rev. Yoshikawa delivered a sermon following the November Monthly Service. The sermon was delivered in Japanese, with a simultaneous English translation by Risa Fukuda. Following the sermon, the reverend officially opened the new portable classroom.

Shikishima Young Men's Study Group

The second Shikishima Young Men's Australia Study Tour was conducted from the 4th - 12th March. During their stay, the group participated in various missionary activities in Melbourne and Brisbane.
